Combine a pair of creative sisters with a love for detail, and you get Personally Preppy, a business inspired by the desire to stay preppy and classic, while standing out in the show ring. Personally Preppy founders Tate and Kir are sisters and riders from Westchester, NY who have been hooked on horses since their first walk trot class.

Their parents, both successful entrepreneurs, encourage all their children to find an idea and take the leap into business. As a team, Tate and Kir ran a pony camp to help pay for their horse showing when they came to a realization; every rider owns similar clothes and equipment in the horse world. It’s too easy to confuse and lose helmets, crops, gloves, and saddle pads in an active, busy barn.

“As avid ‘prepsters’ and equestrians, we knew that monograms were the solution!” says Kir. “We agreed that monogramming would be a fun, yet classic way to let our preppy style shine in the ring.”

Tate and Kir were both in college; Tate pursuing her MBA, and Kir a freshman, both at Salve Regina University when they started Personally Preppy. Launched on etsy and supported by a ravenous social media following, Personally Preppy has grown quickly and keeps the sisters busy.

Their helmet monograms are most popular, but Personally Preppy customer requests have inspired Tate and Kir to monogram everything from bats, to bonnets, to breeches.

“We strive everyday to produce a high quality product at an affordable price,” Kir adds. “There is nothing better then receiving a bright colored envelope with monograms inside that were made with love. We are a sister run company, and we love working together as best friends and business partners. We support girl power, and the power of hard work!”
