Let’s not fool ourselves, the day to day accessories of summer riding look more like sunscreen, helmet visors and dusty boots than Gucci belts, diamond earrings and Bentlys. But a little escapism never hurt anyone, and as the West Coast gears up for one of the most posh equestrian gatherings on the season calendar, we’re officially giving you permission to take a little detour down fantasyland lane.
Somewhere, there exists a world where immaculately-garbed women lounge on polo fields with perfectly-behaved horses posing nearby as a fitting backdrop to their pearls and tea picnic. Somewhere, every hair is in place and there’s not a smudge of dirt, much less a sun visor, to be seen. And in this world, the the transition from riding wear to evening bling is as seamless as scoring a perfect 100 on your hunter course.
During the first weekend in August, these dreams may not exactly come to life, but the sights and sounds at the Menlo Charity Horse Show could come close. One of the most anticipated dates of the year for so many equestrians, Menlo was recognized in 2012 as a USEF Heritage Horse Show. Although it’s got competition (hello, Sonoma Horse Park and Gucci), Menlo reigns supreme as the poshest show West of the Mississippi. Visit the show on August 6-11th and find out why.
In the meantime, enjoy the eye candy provided by photographer Moanalani Jeffrey, models Kristen Hiller (the brunette, you may remember her as the June/July 2013 H&S Style Rider) and Ramsey Kubal.
